Some changes going on...
Ok guys, these days there have been some discussions about what to do with the TONA blog. As far as I know, only four people are writing here, and I guess the four of us are reading our own posts, which I think it's great, but I would like to see some more input from the people of TONA, because that was the original purpose of the blog when I first created it. I wanted it to be used as a tool to communicate and shared things that might be useful or funny to all of us, and this way keep people connected and not isolated 8h a day, week after week, in their own labs or offices.Now, the possibility of using the blog also as a platform for the just created SPIE student chapter in Brussels, group that is only composed by students of the TONA department, made me believe that it would be a good idea to merge both concepts and this way have more activity online.
But apparently, there are some concerns, as TONA and SPIE are not the same thing and mixing them might not be appropiate. So please, I ask for your comments on this post relating this issue. Setting up a new blog for SPIE won't take too much effort, so that wouldn't be a problem, but having two blogs and without enough input in both of them would be a waste of time. Think about it, I'm just the guy who registered the blog but in no way I'm the full responsible of it. Cheers! :)

First of all, thanks a lot for your effort, Goto, and for keeping the Blog alive. Indeed, I think that mixing the SPIE Blog and the TONA Blog might not be the best idea, since it is completely different things. The SPIE student chapter for the moment contains only members of TONA, but I guess the ambition must be to extend this beyond TONA. And then we get into trouble. For me, the identification label is TONA which also comprises many more people than the SPIE student chapter. Certainly, we need more activity in the Blog, so I would suggest to have a meeting with a presentation of the Blog and a discussions what people would like to see in order to get involved. I still think it is an excellent Forum and it would be a pity to let it die. Best,
I would like to comment on this controversy. I think it is a good idea to advertise the events of the SPIE student chapter in our tonablog. At the same time, if the input from the SPIE student chapter becomes too massive I would prefer to create a new blog for it. This tonablog should include every single member of TONA, and should not be only devoted to the chapter.
Not to be misunderstood: I completely agree with Miki that events of the SPIE student chapter can - and even should be - advertised in our tonablog. I only suggest that it should remain the tonablog, since this way we reach most people.
First of all, even if you see the SPIE logo in there, is just because we lost our previous header and we had to put a new one, and that was the one I already ahd prepared. This does not mean that this will definetly be a joint blog...
Anyway, I would like to see more coments in here, Michael? SPIE students?
I would very much prefer a separate blog. TONA!=SPIE although some of our activities do coincide. I for one liked the blog as it was, and I would prefer to widen its scope instead of reducing it. There is little enough interaction between the different groups in the department as is. I am very much afraid that putting an SPIE Student chapter stamp on it will restrict it even more. On a related subject: I applaud the effort that people put into organizing activities, but am sad that instead of having TONA activities we now seem to have SPIE Student chapter activities.
Hmmm - and please remove that silly SPIE logo.
Oh, and please change:

well, ok. After all, trying to involve more people in the blog by using it as a SPIE student chapter was apparently not such a good idea...
I'm sorry to see that people gets suddenly so interested in the blog and worried about such insignificant things, but as I always did and always will try, I don't want to mess with subtle details that can create discomfort in the department. And you all know what I mean.
So for the moment, everythings goes normal again, meaning no SPIE logo involved. Still I keep the Events section for all the events organized in the department. Let's keep on the good posting anyway, ok?

Thanks Goto! Although I do not agree that it was an insignificant thing I share your hope that the Tonablog will remain so active now. I will try to stay active (at least after my holidays)
