Core dump

After more than one month with any posts, I have some links that I've been keeping in the backstage and now I want to share with you:

Einstein's E=mc2 ecuation was first used by an italian mathematician, but didn't grasp the complete theory of relativity. Link

A new hyperlens developed at UC Berkeley is capable of projecting a magnified image of a pair of nanowires spaced 150 nm apart onto a plane up to a meter away, overpassing the diffraction limit. Link

More theoretical reports from the Purdue University on the cloak of invisibility, a nice optical gadget. Link

Bad news for the Large Hidron Collider (LHC) at CERN. They had some problems with Fermilabs, the US partner who was in charge of designing and fabricating the large magnets used to accelerate particles in the ring. Mistake due to incompetence or to other reasons...? Link

Step forward towards observation of quantum effects, by cooling a 1-gram mirror to about 0.8 degrees above absolute zero, by combining two laser-cooling techniques. The first, called optical trapping, maintains the mirror in a precise position, while the second, called optical damping, cools it. Link

A not so serious link, this about a nice physics experiment leaping shampoo. Check the video and try to do it at home! Link

And finally, I want to post something that will probably start a fight in the department :P Link
