Tracking laser printers

Seems that the 'Big Brother' U.S. goverment signed an agreement with major laser printer manufacturers to include little tracking dots in every single sheet of paper their machines print. This way they can track date and serial number of the printer used. Just imagine how many of these 'agreements' they will have with other companies... Scary!

PS: anybody wanna check our TONA laser printers?

Having fun with destructive optics

OK, imagine a coffe break and some discussion about warfare in the ancient greek battles. Then somebody tells you about Archimedes using a 'Death Ray' of condensed sunlight to set the roman battleships afire, and then you become interested... Hmmm, optics, light and destruction, always a good combination!
Here is the result. ;)

Stand out with groovy 'tones

Don't you ever get bored by the "things" some people put on their mobiles to catch their attention when someone calls? I know I do (I have heard "The Mupper Show Theme" once too many, I guess). Now there is a way to really stand out: mathematically correct tones.

Smurfs being bombed in Belgium

Just check the new advertisment from Unicef Belgium, for fighting against the war. Hope it works so our little blue friends don't have to suffer anymore.

Nobel Prizes

Hi, anybody still alive here?

you probably all read about the Nobel Prize in Physics (certainly) going to Optics, right?
But there is more interesting science out there. Have you seen this year's Ig Nobel prizes?

Have you ever questioned yourself with which pressure penguins spread their excrements? There is research on that!
Have fun and a nice weekend,
Ingo

Good old times

Two interesting links. The first one is a video of the Solvay Conference in 1927. You will see some familiar faces. Be aware that the first seconds of the video are only audio.
The second link is a fragment of audio about E=mc2 by Einstein himself.
